About RCE Wales

Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs) around the world were set up to promote and develop ESDGC in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, with long-term goals such as; increasing access to the quality education that is appropriate regionally, supporting environmental stewardship, social justice and equity, and empowering people to make changes in their lives that increase the sustainability of our planet.  ESDGC is the process of delivering the knowledge, skills and values needed to build sustainable local communities, both in Wales and the wider world.

In Wales, we use this acronym ESDGC in place of the more usual ‘ESD’.  This highlights the importance that Wales attaches to the Global Citizenship aspects of ESDGC.
RCEs are made up of a network of partnership organisations, and interested individuals, working towards these goals by disseminating information, sharing learning resources and innovative teaching practices.

The unique characteristic and focus of RCE Wales will be its research and development function.  It will encourage and support us all, in whichever sector we operate, and with whatever focus, to ‘raise the bar’ in terms of the quality and impact of our ESDGC provision, e.g.
  • Improve our ESDGC practice
  • Improve quality ESDGC in our work
  • Measure improvements and impacts
  • Take part in, and benefit from ESDGC research

Becoming a stakeholder in RCE Wales will offer:

  • Access to information about ESDGC
  • Networking with a wide range of organisations and individuals working in ESDGC
  • Support and training in ESDGC
  • Opportunities to link up with partners in collaborative projects
  • Information about potential funding source
  • Links to the global RCE network
  • Opportunities to participate in, and benefit from research on ESDGC
  • Sharing good practice and learning resources
